As a long time member of the LGBTQI+ community I know how problematic it can be to find spaces in which our bodies are accepted. We don’t always find places that make us feel comfortable enough to allow ourselves to be the person we’d like to be.
The fitness industry can be a hostile environment filled with body shaming, enforcement of gender binaries and complete lack of representation and visibility for the queer community.
It can be hard to train in an environment that doesn’t understand you at all.
That’s why my aim is to provide anyone who needs it with the support and space that allows them to empower themselves and achieve their fitness goals.
I came to my passion for training later in life, I fell in love with a sport called Roller Derby.
Before that I was an event/stage manager working very varied mix of theatre and music festivals. My favourite of which to manage was a very inclusive charity ball, which catered to all gender, sexualities and abilities. Through this time I learned I’m an excellent physical thinker and a problem solver. Turns out these are great skills for a personal trainer.
Having broken my leg (twice!), I have a great personal understanding of rehabilitation, particularly when aiming to get yourself back to an athletic level. Not to mention what it’s like to pick yourself up only to be knocked down and have to pick yourself up all over again.
